3-Day Desert Tour from Marrakech to M'Hamid with a Day of Sahara Trekking

Short on time but keen to walk in the Sahara? Travel from Marrakech to M'Hamid, sleep in a fixed camp, then spend a full day trekking with a nomad guide to the old village of Sidi Naji and a wild bivouac under the stars. Return to Marrakech on day three. Transport, guide and full board in the desert are included.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Marrakech – M'HamidDeparture from Marrakech by bus or minibus across the High Atlas and down the Draa Valley to M'Hamid El Ghizlane (lunch at your own expense on the way). Dinner and night in a fixed camp with bathrooms.
  2. Day 2: Trek M'Hamid – Sidi NajiWalk for about 3 hours with your nomad guide through the palm grove and the first dunes to Sidi Naji, where the remains of the former village still stand. Bivouac set up in the dunes, dinner and campfire.
  3. Day 3: Sidi Naji – M'Hamid – MarrakechSunrise over the dunes, then return to M'Hamid on foot or by 4x4 and transfer back to Marrakech, arriving in the evening.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the trek on day 2?

Around 3 hours of easy walking on sand and flat ground, suitable for beginners and families.

What time do we leave Marrakech and get back?

Departure is in the morning; the drive to M'Hamid takes most of the day. On day 3 you arrive back in Marrakech in the evening.

What is the difference between the fixed camp and the bivouac?

The fixed camp at M'Hamid has proper tents and bathrooms. The bivouac on night 2 is a traditional nomad camp set up in the dunes with tents, mattresses and blankets.

Is this a private tour?

Yes. All our departures are private, in small groups of 1 to 8 people, with your own vehicle, driver and local guide. Dates are flexible and the programme can be adapted to your group.

What should I pack?

Light, breathable clothes for the day and a few warm layers for the evening, comfortable closed shoes, a hat, sunglasses and sun cream. Blankets are provided, but bring a sleeping bag if you have one for extra comfort.
